Description

Cavendish Flats is a stable block that has been converted into eleven flats, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof and features coped gables with moulded kneelers, along with brick lateral stacks and 20th-century roof lights. The building is two storeys high and has a canted plan with three ranges.

The outer elevation showcases a central range with raised quoins and a seven-bay round-arched arcade. The central bay is advanced and features an open pediment supported by hanging pilasters adorned with triglyphs, along with the Devonshire crest. There is a central round-arched carriage entrance with a blind tympanum, flanked by three-bay round-arched blind arcades that have a continuous impost band serving as lintels for three casement windows. Above the spandrels, there are two circular windows.

To the right, the range has an irregular elevation with a doorway, a lean-to that is not of special interest, and a casement window, along with two casement windows and a blind doorway above. The left-hand range consists of five bays, with a first-floor band that steps up over some windows. It features a central tripartite sash window, two single bar sashes to the left, one to the right, and a small casement. Above, there are three single bar sashes.

Inside the courtyard, the central range continues the round-arched theme, with large 20th-century casements and rows of five single bar sashes above. Various sashes and 20th-century fenestration can be found to the right and left.
