Description
This is a barn located to the south west of Hathersage Hall, dating from the 17th century with 19th-century additions at the rear. It is built from coursed rubble gritstone, featuring quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, and a concrete tiled roof. The barn has an elongated 'T' plan with a crosswing at the south west end. It stands two storeys high, with five bays in the main range and two bays in the crosswing. The centre bay of the main range has a full height opening with a depressed arched head and keyblock, along with a single doorway at the south west end that has a massive quoined surround. There are ventilation slits on both the ground and first floors. The south west wall of the crosswing contains two doorways with quoined surrounds, one of which is partially blocked, and two first floor taking-in doorways with flush surrounds, also blocked. A 20th-century opening has been inserted between the blocked openings. Inside, the barn features queen strut roof trusses with curved struts that support a single purlin roof.
