Description

Rock House, along with its attached outbuilding entrance, gate piers, and gates, dates from around 1830. The building is constructed from coursed squared gritstone, featuring rock-faced rustication on the quoins and dressings. It has moulded copings on the southwest gable and stone stacks with coupled octagonal chimneys, although the chimneys at the southwest end have been removed. The house is two storeys tall and comprises five bays, with 2 and 3-light windows set within Gibbsian surrounds made of massive rock-faced masonry. The ground floor window at the northeast end has been replaced with double glazed doors. Keyblocks above the 3-light windows at the southwest end connect with bands above them. The off-centre doorway features a rock-faced Gibbsian surround and a six-panelled door topped with a rectangular overlight of four panes.

The outbuilding at the southwest end has a parapet that supports crenellations and pinnacles, which likely originated from the parish church. The entrance gate piers are square in plan and have depressed pyramidal caps, all made from heavily rusticated masonry. The ornamental cast iron gates feature spear-headed rails in the upper part and diamond lattice work below, with a pedestrian gate located at the centre.
