Description
Eastwood Cottages are two cottages that are part of a terrace of seven, built in the mid-18th century. They are constructed from coursed squared gritstone with quoins, featuring a coped gable and moulded kneelers at the west end. There is a straight joint in the masonry where they connect with the other cottages to the east. The cottages have intermediate and end stone stacks, and the roof is covered with stone and Welsh slates.
The buildings rise three storeys and consist of two bays. The ground and first floors have 2-light flush mullioned windows, while the second floor features 2-light casements with plain lintels. The eastern end has glazing bars on the windows. A central doorway is present, which has a massive lintel and surround, leading to a plain planked door.
Historically, this terrace was associated with the nearby Dale Mill, which was used for wire drawing and needle manufacture. The cottages are listed for their group value.
