Description

Tarset Castle is a ruined castle built in 1267 for John Comyn. The structure features a rubble core with occasional fragments of ashlar. It consists of a mound with extensive lower portions of walls, much of which is now grassed over. There is one short stretch of well-cut double-chamfered plinth. The history and description of the castle can be found in Northumberland County History Volume XV. It is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
