Description

The footbridge over the River North Tyne is a foot suspension bridge, likely built in 1862. It features ashlar, steel, and wood materials. Each end of the bridge has a stone support tower with battered sides and a round-arched passage. The towers are adorned with dentil cornices. Steel cables run through the towers to support a wooden walkway, which is lined with wooden railings. This bridge was constructed to connect the south bank of the river to the railway that opened in 1862.
