Description

St Chad's Well is a public fountain located on the east side of High Street in Lastingham. It is probably from the 18th century but has early origins. The fountain is constructed from tooled sandstone and coursed rubble sandstone. It features a rectangular recess set into the wall, with a semicircular arch beneath a shallow gabled lintel supported by plain jambs with imposts. There is a shallow recessed panel in the center of the lintel inscribed with "St CHAD." Inside, there is an iron pump and a stone trough.
