Description
Park House Farmhouse and its attached outbuilding date from the 17th and 18th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed from herringbone-tooled coursed sandstone on a plinth, topped with a pantiled roof featuring stone ridge, copings, kneelers, and stacks, including a brick stack on the downhouse. The main house and the downhouse are two separate builds that have both been raised, creating a near-symmetrical composition with a hearth-passage plan.
The main house is two storeys high with two bays, while the downhouse is also two storeys but lower, featuring two bays. The outbuilding has one tall storey with two bays. The main entrance includes a boarded through-passage door. The main house has end chimneys, and the downhouse has one rebuilt end chimney. The outbuilding features a stable door and a hit-and-miss window. The rear elevation displays a boarded passage door and several small scattered windows.
Inside, the plinth continues along the through passage, leading to a chamfered doorway that connects to the house-place. The downhouse and kitchen contain large firebeams, and the joists are adorned with quarter-round moulding. The kitchen firebeam is cornice-moulded, and the stone fire surround is supported by large stepped brackets. There is also a panelled spice cupboard. The main house has two-panel doors, with the west doors featuring old wood latches. The parlour includes an old fire surround and a rear wall with panelled doors leading to the staircase and cupboards. A separate stair from the downhouse provides access to two rooms above the kitchen, which feature stout, old chamfered purlins.
