Description
The Blacksmith's Shop at Turton Cottages, built in 1858, is a single-storey structure made of dressed stone with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof featuring coped gables and two tall moulded gable stacks. The building has a deep chamfered plinth.
The west facade is highlighted by a central raised gable section that includes a large doorway with an ashlar surround shaped like a horse-shoe, leading to double plank doors. Above the doorway is a stone plaque that reads "TURTON - 1858 - COTTAGES." The raised coped gable is adorned with kneelers and a top finial. On either side of the doorway, there are single 3-light ashlar cross casement windows, and further along, there are single stable doors, each set within a round-headed flush ashlar surround, featuring the Turton coat-of-arms inscribed on each tympanum.
