Description
Scawton Croft is a house dating from the early 18th century, with remodelling from the late 18th century and a 19th-century outshut. It is constructed from hammer-dressed limestone and features a pantile roof, with a brick outshut. The house has a central hallway entry, an outshut to the left, and a small cross wing at the rear with a catslide roof. It stands two storeys tall and has three windows on the first floor. The front of the house is marked by massive quoins, a half-glazed door, and three-light Yorkshire sash windows with shutters. The outshut contains a boarded door and a fixed window. On the first floor, there are three-light Yorkshire sash windows, and throughout the building, channelled wedge lintels are present. The gable has coping, and there are shaped kneelers and rebuilt end stacks. Inside, the kitchen features a massive bressumer over the fireplace, and the main rooms have six-fielded-panel doors with H-L hinges on some surviving earlier boarded doors. The landing is adorned with splat balusters.
