Description
The Cottage and attached outbuildings are two houses that have been combined into one dwelling, dating from the early 19th century, possibly using older materials. The structure is built of pecked, squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a purple slate roof with a stone ridge, gable copings, kneelers, and stacks, while the outbuilding has pantiles. The design is in the Gothick style and consists of two storeys with five bays, arranged in a near-symmetrical layout.
In the second and fourth bays, there are doors with long, pointed panels set in architraves topped with flattened ogee heads. The other bays contain two-light chamfered stone-mullioned windows, which are taller on the ground floor, and one-light windows above the doors. All windows are chamfered, set in architraves, and feature projecting cills, with most having leaded lights. A small window has been inserted by the right-hand door. The eaves soffit is very deep, and the roof is fairly low-pitched, supported by large end brackets that hold square kneelers for the ridged, gabled copings. There are octagonal corniced stacks, with one at the left end and one at each end of the three-bay section of the right house.
The right outbuilding is a single storey, featuring a boarded door and a four-light wood-mullioned window, while there is a small twin-doored outhouse at the left end.
