Description
The Former Bethel Congregational Church is a mid-19th century chapel located on High Street in Staithes. It is constructed of coursed stone with a plinth and features a hipped Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys and three round-arched windows, all set in stone surrounds with impost blocks. There is a drip mould above the ground floor windows and the central doorway, which consists of a six-panel double door topped with a fanlight. Above the door is a stone plaque that reads "BETHEL" in relief Egyptian lettering. To the left of the main entrance is a subsidiary six-panel door with an oblong fanlight. The rear elevation facing Beckside has four storeys and includes a small outhouse on the left, as well as cast iron area railings.
