Description

The Church of All Saints is a Grade II* listed building, likely originating from the 12th century, with 15th-century additions and 19th-century restoration. It is constructed of hammer-dressed sandstone and limestone rubble, topped with Welsh and Westmorland slate roofs. The church features a three-bay nave with a south porch and a two-bay chancel.

On the west front, there is a two-light trefoil-headed window with a bellcote above. The nave contains two-light trefoil-headed windows throughout. The 19th-century south porch includes a doorway in Norman style, which is probably a reproduction of the original and incorporates the original shafts and bases. There is also a blocked round-headed door with two square orders on worn scalloped capitals on the north side. The chancel has two-light trefoil-headed windows and a blocked ogee-arched priests' door on the south side, as well as a three-light Perpendicular window on the east.

Inside, a nook shaft to the west of the south door may have been part of an original Norman tower arch. The chancel holds several notable memorials, including one for Ralfe Tankard, who died in 1601 at the age of 75, featuring a bust in an oval medallion and an incised shield in painted marble. Another memorial is for Ann Tankard, who died in 1608 at the age of 2, also in incised and painted marble, depicting a clock face, a rose-bush, a lady, and a baby in a cradle. Later monuments include one for Charles Tancred, who died in 1769 at the age of 70, made of white marble on a grey background with a medallion and arms above.
