Description
The sundial, located approximately 20 metres south of Dial House, dates from 1800 and is attributed to John Russell. It is constructed from ashlar stone set on a roughly dressed stone base, featuring cast-iron gnomons and brackets. The sundial is mounted on a tall stepped plinth, which consists of a cylindrical pedestal that supports a cube topped with a sphere. An inscription around the top of the pedestal reads: "ERECTED BY SUBSCRIPTION." The sloped cap of the cylinder includes a Time Equation table. The cube has east and west meridian dials carved on its east and west faces, along with north and south vertical direct dials on its north and south faces. The north face is also inscribed with the name and date: "J Russell Sculpit, August 27th, AD MDCCC." A horizontal dial is positioned on top, and the sphere indicates solar hours.
