Description
Anthony House is a longhouse, likely built in the mid-18th century, consisting of two nearly contemporary sections. It is constructed from coursed squared tooled stone and features a pantiled roof with stone copings, kneelers, and a stack.
The building is one storey with a loft. The entrance front has a hearth-passage door located to the left of the center, with a small rebated loft window above it. Further to the left, there is another byre door flanked by vent slits, with two additional vents in similar positions above, under the eaves. The right section of the house is mostly blank, except for a small window at the extreme right. The roof has a stone ridge and copings, a central stack with a missing cornice, pointed kneelers at the north end, and a square kneeler at the south end. There are pitching doors in the return gables.
The rear of the house displays the house front, which features a single light window on the left, followed by a two-light mullioned window, both of which are chamfered. On the right, there is a boarded byre door with a narrow chamfer, flanked by joggled slits, and three similar slits above.
Inside, the walls are approximately two feet thick. There are doorways leading from the passage to both the byre and the house; the house doorway is chamfered and has a wooden inner lintel. The interior includes a plain 18th-century stone fireplace with recesses for salt and spice cupboards to the right, the salt cupboard having a rebate for a small door. All joinery has been removed. The post holes for the loft beams have been filled in the house but remain in the byre.
The building was empty at the time of the survey.
