Description
Roydon Manor is a manor house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and significant rebuilding in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of brick, including some blue bricks, and features an old plain tile roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a nine-bay double pile layout.
The entrance front has a central section that rises to two and a half storeys, featuring three bays beneath a gable with kneelers. On the ground floor, there are three tall 15-pane sash windows. To the left, the central bay contains a six-panel door set within a Doric doorcase topped by a broken pediment. Each side of this door are 12-pane sash windows, and similar windows are found in the right flanking bays.
A raised band runs along the first floor, which includes a semi-external stack on the front face between the left bay and the next. The first floor of the flanking bays features 12-pane sashes, while the central bays, which are set half a storey higher, have nine-pane sashes. All windows are topped with segmental arches made of rubbed bricks. The gables are kneelered inverted W shapes, with walls extending to the gable wall of the central gable. A ridge stack is positioned on the main roof above the centre and at the right end.
