Description

School House, built in 1749 and now a private house, stands in Dacre. The building has roughcast walls topped by a graduated greenslate roof, with a cement-rendered brick chimney stack. It is a small, one-and-a-half-story building with two bays. The front features two-light stone mullioned windows, each set beneath a continuous quarry-faced hood. A plank door is set into a painted chamfered stone surround on the right return wall, alongside a sash window in a similar painted surround. The school was originally endowed to provide instruction for four poor girls, which explains its small size. It holds group value with the nearby Horse and Farrier Inn.
