Description

The carved bear located north-west of the Church of St Andrew is a medieval sculpture made of red sandstone, standing about 4 feet high. It is one of a group of four bears believed to be in their original medieval positions at each corner of the churchyard, each representing part of a story. This particular bear is thought to be depicted as asleep with its head resting on a pillar, although much of its head has worn away over time.
