Description

The alms table located west of the Church of St Andrew is from the 17th or 18th century and is made of red sandstone. It features a large flat slab that resembles a table tomb, supported by six shaped pillars. Unlike a traditional tomb, it does not have an inscription; instead, it has a central brass sundial, which is missing its gnomon, and is inscribed with the name WILLIAM PORTHOUSE, PENRITH, 1732-3. A similar alms table can be found at Greystoke.
