Description
Matson Ground, built in 1834, is a house located to the west with attached buildings in Bowness. The structure dates back to the 17th and early 18th centuries and is constructed from lime-washed stone rubble with a slate roof. It has low two storeys and an irregular square plan. The house features small square casements and 16-paned sash windows, along with remains of a slate dripstone. On the roadside front, there are small wooden bay windows, three other windows on the ground floor, and four above, including 16- and 20-paned sashes and a triple sash. The left-hand gable displays a datestone from 1721 marked T.D.B, along with a gabled porch and a projecting chimney. There is also a long range of former farm buildings, now used as garages and stores, positioned at right angles to the north. These buildings are made of stone with a low slate roof, featuring a loft door and two windows.
