Description
Matson Ground, located on Helm Road in Bowness, is a house built around 1830. It features an irregular plan with a central block that has a wooden porch supported by round columns with Egyptian capitals. The porch includes a panelled frieze and a dentilled cornice. The main block has two 16-paned sash windows on each floor and a long round-headed staircase window above the door, which is adorned with Gothic tracery. The eaves are designed with triple blocks, and there are two dormers. The similar wings at each end of the house are likely later additions.
