Description
The Church of St James is a parish church built in 1840, with additions made in 1884 and 1933. It is constructed from squared stone and slate rubble, topped with a graduated greenslate roof featuring coped gables. The church has a two-bay nave that includes a west twin bellcote, a west porch, and a north vestry, along with a single-bay chancel. The nave is adorned with lancet windows. Inside, there are 20th-century furnishings and fittings. The east window was created by Henry Holiday in 1893, and there is a stained-glass north window from 1903. Additionally, there is a bronze plaque dedicated to Alan Catherall, placed there by his father Cyril Catherall in 1945.
