Description
The barn immediately to the south of Pool Bank Farmhouse is likely from the 18th century, with some later additions. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a slate roof, featuring some brick infill. The building is L-shaped, with a 5-bay west wing that includes ventilation slots and a barn entrance with a pentice and paired pivoted doors. There is a 3-bay extension from the 20th century to the south, which is of no special interest.
Inside, the barn has collar and tie beam trusses and is open to the north wing, which has a square pier. The north wing, consisting of 5 bays, is a later addition. Its north elevation features a large entrance with paired pivoted doors set in a section of plastered brick wall, with flanking entrances. The gable end of the west wing has a segmental-headed entrance and ventilation slots. The south elevation of the north wing includes a 20th-century cow house outshut under a catslide roof and a large wing dated 1945, which is also of no special interest. The barn is included for its group value.
