Description
Bowness is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with later additions and alterations. It is built of wet-dashed rubble on a boulder plinth and features a graduated slate roof with a full-width outshut at the rear. The house has rendered mid chimneys, with the southern chimney being larger and stepped. It is a single storey building with an attic and consists of three bays, along with an attached garage and store.
The entrance has a studded plank door set in a central gabled porch, flanked by single casement windows in stone surrounds on either side, and two dormer windows above. To the far left is a plank garage door, and to the far right is a plank store door. At the rear, there are three windows, with the central one originally being mullioned and featuring a chamfered stone surround.
Inside, the front room to the south has crucks boxed in on either side of the inglenook fireplace. The interior retains mostly original doors, which are either plank or panelled.
