Description
Thornthwaite, Town Head is a building likely dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of white-washed and roughcast stone rubble with a slate roof and has two low storeys. The south front features several 3-light casement windows along with some new windows that are irregularly spaced and have a slate dripstone above them. The door is located at the left end and is sheltered by a slate gabled hood; this end of the building is single storey due to the rising ground. The walls are very thick. At the rear, there are external stone steps leading to a low door situated under the eaves, along with a window at ground level. For additional context, refer to the general group description under Troutbeck Village.
