Description

The Old Bobbin Mill, now a house, dates from the 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, with most of the exterior roughcast. The building is two storeys high with eleven bays; the western two bays are single-storey and taller. The south elevation features windows with 20th-century casements. The first two bays have fixed glazing. The end three bays have a ground floor raised over a basement. Adjoining walls and round piers are remnants of a former coppice barn. There are two entrances, and a small gable-end stack. The north elevation reveals the original stone and has a 20th-century lateral stack. The west gable end shows evidence of a former gable over projecting line shafting, and includes an entrance with a gabled slate hood and an inserted garage entrance. The interior retains the wheel pit, a spiral staircase, and the original line shafting with attendant wheels.
