Description
Walthwaite is a 17th-century building complex with an L-shaped plan. The east wing is older than the west wing. It is constructed of white-washed stone rubble and has a long, low profile with two storeys. The building features a gabled porch and five 16-paned sash windows on the upper floor. There is a pigeon cote built into the house wall. An attached former cottage includes a bee-hive oven and stone stairs. A stone well-head is located against the side wall. The attached barn has two wood-mullioned windows and a former spinning gallery. Inside, the building contains an 18th-century wooden fireplace, panelling, a spice cupboard, a dresser, stone floors, oak stairs with panelling, and stone benches in the dairy.
