Description
The Church of St Olaf is a parish church with the earliest reference dating back to around 1550, with records beginning in 1620. The building has undergone later additions and alterations. It features pebble-dashed rubble walls that are approximately 3 feet thick, set on a plinth. The roofs are made of graduated slate with overhanging eaves and stone copings, topped with a bellcote at the west end. The church is a single cell structure, with side walls about 5 feet high. There is a 20th-century plank door on the north side and 19th-century multi-light stone-mullioned windows with hoodmoulds. Inside, there are four original roof trusses, one of which has a cut tie-beam located over the altar. The side walls are adorned with ornate 19th-century cast-iron lamp brackets. Additionally, there is a monolithic stone holy-water stoup, possibly the original font, set in a recess in the west wall. This stoup is approximately 2½ feet high, square in plan, and features stop-chamfered corners.
