Description
This is an outbuilding dating from the 1850s, located approximately 30 meters south of Brantwood. It was built for William Linton and features painted stone rubble with quoins and a slate roof. The structure is two storeys high with three bays and a lean-to bay on the right side, where the eaves are raised. The ground floor may have originally served as a stable, containing two entrances and two windows. On the first floor, there are two additional windows, and a staircase leads up the bank to an entrance on this level. The first floor was used to house a printing press for William Linton, who was a wood engraver and revolutionary socialist. His periodicals, the English Republic and Northern Tribune, were printed in this space. The room originally had slogans painted on the walls, one of which, "GOD AND THE PEOPLE," has been uncovered.
