Description

Town Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now used for holiday accommodation, dating from the early 19th century, although it may contain some earlier fabric that is concealed. The building was extended at the left end in the late 19th century. It is constructed of unrendered stone rubble with brick and stone dressings and features a bitumenized slate roof with gable end and ridge brick stacks.

The layout consists of a two-room and central staircase plan, with a gable-ended two-storey service range attached to the rear, along with an added bay of one-room plan that has an integral rear outshut at the left end. A straight joint immediately to the right of the porch suggests that the main range has two phases, with the left-hand side possibly containing earlier fabric, though 19th-century remodelling has obscured any earlier details.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a four-window range. The early 20th-century windows include two-light casements with six panes per light on the upper storey and three-light casements on the ground floor, with eight panes per light to the left of the porch and six panes per light to both the left and right of the porch. Most windows have cambered brick lintels, except for the left-hand ground floor window, which features stone voussoirs with a drip above, and the upper storey windows to the right of the porch, which have timber lintels.

The porch, made of stone rubble, has a slated gabled roof and a pointed arched doorway, with a 19th-century six-panelled inner door, two of which are glazed. Some 19th-century joinery remains, including the staircase, plank doors, and fireplace mantelshelves in the principal rooms.
