Description
This is a house with two shops, built in 1733 and possibly for Henry and Catherine Callard, as indicated by initials on a datestone. It was later refronted and remodelled in the early to mid-18th century. The building is constructed of rendered mass walls, with a slate roof. It was originally designed with a deep plan, two rooms wide, and a cartway at the left end, with a room situated above the cartway. The cartway has a segmental arched head. The shop to the right has a three-pane plate-glass window and a glazed door with an overlight, plus a fascia and cornice. The shop to the far right has plate-glass windows canted inwards towards the central shop door, all glazed with a low panel and features a fascia and cornice on brackets. The first floor has three, three-over-three-pane horned sash windows. A datestone with incised lettering is visible on the first floor. The front rooms have been altered for shop use; however, historic features may survive in other areas. The building holds significant group value with other properties in Fore Street.
