Description
There are two headstones located approximately 1.5 metres south of the south aisle chapel of the Church of St Mary. They are set back to back and are both made of slate. One headstone, dated 1711, commemorates John Arscott and faces west. It is round-headed, stands about 600mm high, features a simple incised border, and has an inscription in large Roman serif capitals recording John Arscott's death. The other headstone, dated 1746, commemorates Moses Arscott and faces east. It is approximately 900mm high with a nowy-shaped head that includes a panel carved with a skull and crossbones, flanked by fronds in low relief. The inscription on this headstone is also in large Roman serif capitals, noting the death of Moses Arscott.
