Description

Well Meadow Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed of roughcast granite stone rubble with granite stacks, one of which has its original granite ashlar chimney shaft, and features a thatched roof. The farmhouse has a three-room-and-through-passage plan and is built across a hillslope, facing north-west. The inner room is located at the right (south-western) end and is unheated, likely serving as a dairy. The hall contains an axial stack that backs onto the passage, while the service end room has a gable-end stack. An internal inspection was not possible during the survey, so the historic development of the house cannot be fully determined, but it is believed to have originally been some form of open hall house.

The exterior displays irregular fenestration with three ground floor and two first floor windows, all of which are late 19th and 20th century casements with glazing bars. The front passage doorway is positioned left of centre and features a 20th century plank door behind a contemporary gabled porch with a slate roof. The roof is half-hipped on the right side and gable-ended on the left. Although the interior was not inspected, it appears to have remained unmodernised since the late 19th to early 20th century, and it is suspected to contain several 16th and 17th century features, some of which may be concealed behind later plaster. The farmhouse may also have a late medieval roof.
