Description
This is an outbuilding, formerly a longhouse, located about 20 metres north-east of Sherwell Farmhouse. It is possibly medieval in origin and was extended to the north-west in the 18th or 19th century, and to the south-east in the 20th century. There is a lean-to at the rear from the 19th century, which was also extended in the 20th century. The building is constructed of granite rubble, with a hipped roof at the north-west end covered in corrugated iron.
The layout includes a single room on the right, which shows no signs of a fireplace, and a shippon on the left with front and back doors opposite each other, adjacent to the former house section. The building is one storey high with a loft. The front door features a porch made of two large granite slabs with a third slab as a roof; the left side-piece rests on a rough boulder, and both side-pieces have smaller stones at the top, likely intended to support the roof. To the right of the porch is another door with a wooden lintel, which is probably a later addition, and next to it is an old slit window. On the left side of the porch, there are two small windows that are larger than the slit window. The left extension has a pair of large double doors, and just below the eaves to the left of these doors are six pigeon holes.
Inside, the loft floor beams and roof are from the 20th century, and the shippon features a roughly made drain down the centre, which is of uncertain age.
