Description

This unoccupied longhouse, located approximately 30 metres north of Sherberton Farmhouse, is not currently in agricultural use. It likely contains some fabric from the 16th century and was extended in the 18th or 19th century, with significant alterations made over time. The building features granite rubble walls and a hipped roof covered with corrugated sheeting.

Although the original plan has been much altered, it is possible to deduce its initial layout. The central door originally led into a through-passage, with a hall to the left and probably an inner room, while a shippon was situated to the right. The hall contains an axial fireplace that backs onto the passage. In the 18th century, the house was likely extended at the higher end by one or two rooms, with a new entrance created into the former inner room. The shippon may have also been extended during the 18th or 19th century. The house became unoccupied in the early 20th century.

The exterior is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical three-window front, which includes either 19th century or early 20th century casements or corrugated perspex. There is probably an 18th century lean-to stone rubble open-fronted porch towards the left-hand end, and a plank door leading to the former passage is located to the right of centre. Inside, there is a large granite-framed fireplace in the hall, and the building was completely reroofed in the 20th century.
