Description

LYDFORD SX 67 SW 15/12 Unoccupied longhouse approximately - 30 metres north of Sherberton - Farmhouse II

Unoccupied longhouse not in agricultural use. Probably ncorporates some C16 fabric. Extended in C18 or C19 and considerably altered. Granite rubble walls. Hipped corrugated sheeting roof. Plan: now much altered but its original form and development can be deduced. The door at the centre originally led into a through-passage with hall and probably inner room to the left and shippon to the right. The hall has an axial fireplace backing onto the passage. Probably in the C18 the house was extended at the higher end by 1 or 2 rooms with a new entrance made into the former inner room. It may also have had it shippon extended in the C18 or C19. The house became unoccupied in the early C20. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front with either C19 or early C20 casements or corrugated perspex. Probably C18 leanto stone rubble open-fronted porch towards left-hand end. Plank door to former passage to right of centre. Interior: large granite-framed fireplace to hall. Completely reroofed in C20.
