Description
The barn and adjoining roundhouse, located to the southwest of East Down Farmhouse, date from the 18th century or earlier and have been converted into a field centre in the late 20th century. The structure features whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings and timber, topped with a thatched roof. The barn has a hipped roof at both ends, while the roundhouse has its own thatched roof. The west elevation includes large double timber doors on the left, a section of 20th-century glazing and timber in the center right, and small 20th-century windows beneath timber lintels. The rear elevation is mostly clad in timber. Inside, some 18th-century apex roof trusses remain. The late 20th-century conversion has maintained the appealing thatched roof and overall shape of the building, which is noted for its group value with East Down Farmhouse.
