Description
Tower Lodge is a gateway with flanking gatehouses located at the south entrance to Great Fulford House, dating from the early 19th century. The gateway is constructed from granite ashlar, while the gatehouses are roughcast and were formerly stuccoed. Designed in the Gothic style, the gateway features a chamfered four-centred archway topped with a battlemented parapet. This archway is flanked by octagonal turrets that have machicolated embattled parapets and two blind slits at the front.
Each single-storey gatehouse has one room and is adorned with embattled parapets that conceal lean-to roofs. They each contain a two-light window at the front, complete with a hoodmould. The right-hand gatehouse includes a chimney stack at the right end for heating. A pair of iron gates, likely contemporary with the structure, features diagonal struts below the middle rail and arrowhead finials above the top rail. This gateway serves as a fine example of a small Gothic gate entrance.
