Description

A longhouse, likely dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, built of granite rubble with slate roofs. The farmhouse section features a thick stone chimney stack at each end of the roof ridge and follows a two-room plan. Both ground floor rooms have fireplaces, with the hall fireplace backing onto a through-passage. An attached shippon has a separate front entrance and is divided from the passage at ground-floor level by a stone wall with a small doorway; this wall isn't bonded to the outer walls of the shippon, but there's no evidence to confirm it's a later addition. Lean-to extensions are present at the rear of the building. The house section is three windows wide, with the left-hand window positioned above the through-passage. All windows are timber casements with glazing bars, likely dating from the 19th or early 20th century. A plank door provides entry to the house, while the shippon doorway has a plain granite lintel. Above the shippon doorway is a loading door with a timber lintel, alongside a small slit window on the ground floor. Inside, the hall fireplace has granite jambs, one of which is a single monolith, and incorporates an oven at the rear. The upper floor is supported by front-to-back running joists, and the roof contains oak trusses with collars nailed to their faces. The shippon includes a central drain.
