Description

The wall enclosing the south side of the former marketplace at the center of Dartmoor Prison was completed in 1809. It was shortened in the early to mid-20th century and has undergone later repairs.

Constructed from granite stone rubble, the wall features rounded granite stone copings. It is approximately 20 meters long and about 2 meters high, gently sweeping down at its east end. At the west end, the wall is finished with a square gate pier that is topped with a square coping stone, which has rusticated sides.
