Description
This is a headstone dated 1813, located approximately 2 metres south of the aisle of the Church of St Mary in Belstone. It commemorates Jane Newcombe and is made of slate. The upright slab stands about 900mm high and features a shaped head. The head of the stone has a sunken panel that depicts stylized angels holding an orb, which is carved with a biblical quotation. The main inscription is primarily in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, but it also includes some italic and Gothic lettering. It records the death of Jane Newcombe in 1813 and features a biblical verse. The back of the headstone is signed by the sculptor Wm. Carwithen.
