Description
This is a threshing barn with a horse engine house, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of partly plastered granite stone rubble with some cob, and originally had a thatched roof, now replaced with slate. The barn is oriented on a north-south axis and features two opposing doorways leading to the threshing floor, which is located south of center. The east doorway, which opens into the farm courtyard, is smaller than the west doorway, and neither is full height. There is a centrally located hayloft loading hatch on the east side. The roof is hipped at the south end and gable-ended at the north.
At the north end of the west side, there is a 19th-century horse engine house that projects outward at right angles and has a semi-hexagonal end. This structure is open-sided, supported by low rubble walls on either side and a series of monolithic granite posts. Inside, it contains a large beam but no machinery remains, and its roof is also hipped. The interior of the barn is open to the roof and retains its threshing floor made of oak planks set on granite sets. The roof structure consists of five bays with A-frame trusses and pegged lap-jointed collars.
