Description
The bank barn and attached farm buildings, located 15 meters north of Alston Farmhouse, likely date from the early 19th century. Constructed from stone rubble, the buildings have roofs made of corrugated iron and asbestos, except for the section closest to the house, which features tarred slates. The barn has a half-hipped roof and is positioned on the north side of a small cattle yard, with a lower building adjoining it on the right. At the rear of this lower building is an iron water-wheel. There are further ranges along with a gateway to the south. The barn is two storeys high and includes a wide doorway at the rear on higher ground and a narrow doorway at the front, which is now blocked. It features plank doors, including two loft doors. Inside, there is a cog-wheel that corresponds to the exterior water-wheel, along with three cog-wheels mounted on an iron bar in the upper storey.
