Description
Willmead Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with some later additions. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a thatched roof. At the center of the ridge, there is a large granite ashlar chimneystack with thatch weatherings and a tapered top. The original layout likely consisted of three rooms, although it is unclear whether the stack backs onto a cross-passage or stands in front of the entrance, which would make it a rare example in Devon. The building has two storeys, with a single-storey addition to the right.
The front of the original range features four windows, with the second bay from the right containing a two-storeyed stone entrance porch. The ground storey of the porch has an old wooden outer door frame, likely round-headed and with durn jambs, and there is a panelled early 18th-century door at the rear of the porch. The windows are fitted with 20th-century wooden casements that include mullions and leaded panes. Although closer inspection was not possible, it is reported that the house has a 'minstrels' gallery and an old roof, indicating that it is a building of considerable quality with likely interesting features inside.
