Description

Kelly Cottages (Nos. 1 and 2) are a pair of cottages, likely originally a farmhouse, dating from the late 16th or 17th century. The cottages are constructed of painted stone rubble, with a cob layer visible below the eaves. The roof is thatched, except for a section at the left-hand end, which is covered with corrugated iron. There are two rendered brick chimney stacks, one on the ridge and one on the right-hand gable. The cottages are two storeys high and have three windows on the second storey, although this doesn’t reflect the building’s considerable length. The right-hand second-storey window has three lights with wooden ovolo-moulded mullions and metal casements with leaded panes. A ground-floor window in the middle has a 19th-century wood casement with leaded panes, but the chamfered wooden lintel above is original, featuring full pyramid-shaped bar-stops. The interior has not been inspected.
