Description
This barn, located about 40 metres south-west of Ruddycleave Farmhouse, dates from around 1760. It is constructed of granite rubble and has a roof covered with corrugated iron, with the apex of each gable also covered, possibly indicating that the roof was originally half-hipped. The barn is a single storey, with the left-hand end lofted.
The long wall facing the farmhouse features a large doorway in the centre, which has a plain wood lintel and a plain wood door frame, likely original. To the left of this doorway is a small inserted window. There is a large opening in the right-hand gable, which is probably original, and a small doorway, likely a later addition, in the left-hand gable. Additionally, there is a small original doorway with a granite lintel in the rear wall. The roof structure was modified in the 20th century. Historical information about the barn's date comes from Miss E Gawne, based on records in the Devon Record Office, and Ruddycleave Farm formerly belonged to the parish.
