Description

Southcott Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was likely remodeled in the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a 19th-century parallel range added at the rear. The building features granite rubble walls and chimney stacks topped with moulded granite caps, which may originate from an earlier structure. It has a thatched roof with a gable end at the lower end and a hip at the higher end. The layout is a double depth, consisting of a 2- or 3-room plan with small integral rear rooms in the main range. There is a passage between the lower right and middle rooms, and the 19th-century parallel range is located at the rear of the higher (left) end. The lower right gable end and axial stacks are present. The farmhouse is two stories high and has a regular four-window front, featuring 20th-century two-light casements, most of which have glazing bars. There are two doorways that are sheltered by 20th-century weatherboarded porches with lean-to roofs; one doorway to the right of center has a glazed and panelled door, while the left side has a plank door. At the rear of the higher end, the 19th-century range is situated. The interior is not accessible, but it is said to contain a large granite-framed fireplace, along with other period features that may be concealed.
