Description
The stable and pigsties located about 10 meters north-east of Ruddycleave Farmhouse are likely from the 18th century and constructed from granite rubble. The roofs are covered with corrugated iron. This single-storey building consists of two distinct parts, with the stable on the right being part-lofted, although it was probably fully lofted originally.
The stable features a large opening cut into the right side of its front wall, while a small window with a granite lintel, likely original, is situated to the left. There are three pigsties, each with a doorway that has a granite lintel. The left-hand doorway is blocked, while the other two have plank doors with old strap hinges. At the base of the wall, there are three smaller feeding apertures, each with granite lintels; the base of these openings is formed by the outer edge of granite feeding troughs within the sty. The two right-hand apertures have plank doors with old iron strap hinges and latches, and above each aperture is a slit window. The roof structure of the stable may be original, featuring collars pegged to the faces of the principal rafters.
