Description
Pound Cottages is a cottage dating from the 16th or 17th century, with later additions. It features solid, rendered walls made of cob and stone, with one section entirely constructed of cob on a stone footing. The roof is thatched, and there are two gable chimneys made of large-scale granite rubble, which have tapered tops and weatherings. The cottage has an L-shaped, two-room layout and stands two storeys high, with a three-window front facing south. All windows are 20th-century wooden casements without glazing bars, and there is a 20th-century lean-to entrance porch.
Inside, the east range has chamfered upper floor beams with rounded step-stops. The owner reports a large granite fireplace with a wooden lintel, which is now plastered over, and to the left of this fireplace, there is a winding granite staircase that is also covered. The west range features a gable fireplace, which is said to have granite jambs, and a chamfered wood lintel that is partly visible. In the upper room of this range, one truss is exposed, with plain feet resting on the tops of the walls.
