Description
Brent Mill Bridge is a road bridge over the River Avon, dating from the 17th or 18th century. Originally a pack-horse bridge, it was widened on the north side around the 18th century. The bridge is constructed of granite rubble with dressed granite arches. It features a large round main arch and a smaller flood arch to the west, both of which have recessed arch rings. The parapets are topped with chamfered granite coping. There is one later cutwater on both the upstream and downstream sides, with refuges in the parapet above. James Green, a country surveyor, recorded the bridge in 1809 as it appears today, suggesting that the widening likely occurred in the 18th century while the original structure may date back to the 17th century.
