Description

No. 9 Lime Street is a house located at the end of a row, likely built in the late 18th century. The ground floor is made of granite rubble, while the upper part features a light timber frame that is roughcast. The roof is thatched, gabled at the left end and half-hipped at the right end, with slate lean-to roofs at the right-hand end and the rear. There are rendered chimneystacks, one at the left gable end and another at the rear within the lean-to outshut. The house has a two-room plan with a central entrance, and each room has a rear lateral fireplace, with service rooms located in the two-storey rear lean-to outshut. The building has been extended by half a bay to the right, which has a lean-to roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features a three-window range. The windows are late 18th century or early 19th century 12-pane sashes in exposed cases, with only one central attic window that has six panes, likely a fixed light window. There is a late 19th century flush panel and glazed door in a plain opening near the centre. The eaves at the right-hand end are lower due to the slate roof lean-to. Inside, there are two blocked fireplaces on the rear walls of the front rooms, which have been combined into one large room by removing the partitions. The original roof trusses are halved and pegged to the face of the principals. The largely unaltered front with sash windows and thatched roof makes this building an important feature of the street.
